State of Child In Nepal

Smiling Child
In context of Nepal, all the people below the 18 years are regarded as children. Children are unsafe, helpless, little creatures who are not capable and equipped to look after themselves. According to the census 2058, the population of children below 18 years was 12.2 million that is around 48% of total population. The analyzation from the facts and figures of child of Nepal concluded that the state of child in Nepal was in a deplorable condition.

The deplorable condition of child in Nepal can be heard and seen daily. Every week, we can find that about 2000 child lose their lives, due to the country’s indifference towards them. The infant mortality rate in Nepal is increasing these days. According to the census of 2001 A.D, it was found that the infant mortality rate of Nepal was 64.4 pr thousand. Out of 3.6 million children under five years of age, 62% do not have access to basic health services. Every year 50, 000 children die of preventable diseases. Similarly, 39% of children do not get chance to finish their primary education. We can find about 2.6 million of children working as child laborers. Those children are compelled to work as labor in order to have their living. Among them, 127000 children live in a danger. They are forced to work in dangerous places keeping their life in risk.

In addition to these, children are being much exploited. The child marriage before the age of 18 years is about 51%. Every year, 12,000 children are trafficked for domestic works like carpet weaving, circus, forced marriage and prostitution.

Government of Nepal is unable to fulfill the basic rights of the child like right to education, right to development, right to freedom, etc. We can see the children those who are   ill-fed, ill clothed, oppressed and exploited. Children in majority number are found these days near the street living the life of beggar. Children are kept in the home and factories as slaves. They are given less wages and are not well treated. Along with these state, we can hear the news daily that a number of children are kidnapped and killed.

Hence, with these states of children found in Nepal, we can say that the children of Nepal are not in proper state. Those children are not having their rights.

All over, the laws made by Government of Nepal are not enough and is not properly implemented to provide proper rights to all the children of our state.
