We live in our society.
it is made of different castes and sub-castes. there are different
traditions and cultures. Some of the traditions are good but not
all of them. Dowry system is one of the social evils which is in
practice till now. Dowry is the property or money given to the bride to
take her husband's house when she gets
married. this evil system is especially practiced in the Terai region
of Nepal.
Nowadays, dowry is a major factor when someone gets married.
the bridegroom's family proposes the amount of dowry. And if the bride's
family agrees it, the marriage program is organized. But the dowry
should be given on the day of marriage ceremony. The bridegroom can deny
the marriage if he does not get the decided dowry. It is the worst
aspect of this system.
Bride parents want their daughter to have a prosperous life. they want to support her economically. They certainly love their daughter. But in dowry system, the money and other things are not given to her for her happiness; rather they are given to make the bridegroom agree to get married to her. nowadays, the bridegrooms demand more property for the bride's family. Thus, this evil has commercialized marriage contract and conjugal life.
This system is certainly disadvantageous. Firstly,the relation between brides and bridegrooms cannot be sound.The bride grooms treat the brides badly if they think thew given dowry is not enough. We can see and hear many crimes connected to the issues of dowry. Some brides are badly beaten by their husbands. They argue their wives to bring additional property. Unfortunately, the struggle between the bride and bridegroom destroys their entire life. Some of the newly married women are murdered by their husbands as the result of dowry system. what a savage brutality!
Nowadays, this system has been developed as the source of earning property for unmarried males. Many good girls cannot get good husbands if their parents are not well off. The brides families feel that they have bought the boys for their daughters. The boys are treated as the goods of the market. Newly married spouses cannot be rapporteur with each other. Therefore this system should be either eradicated of reformed.
I think that this system should be banned by law. All the Educated girls and boys should discourage and avoid this system when they get married. The parents of the girls should educate their daughters properly. If the girls are educated, they can find good husbands themselves. At any cost, this system should be wiped out for a well-cultured and civilized society.
